Tanzanian Startups Target $100 Million Funding Milestone in 2026

Tanzanian startups are projected to attract $100 million in funding by year-end as President Samia Suluhu Hassan hosts a major African infrastructure summit.

Zahoro Muhaji, CEO of the Tanzania Startup Association, announced that Tanzanian startups are on track to surpass $100 million in funding by the end of 2026. This projection follows a strong first half of the year, during which startups attracted $52 million and positioned Tanzania as the fifth-largest startup funding destination in Africa from January to June.

This growth marks a recovery from 2025, when investor caution during an election period saw fundraising drop below $20 million. Muhaji detailed these figures during the launch of the Tanzania Development Vision 2050 implementation instruments, emphasizing the need to shift away from business as usual to build a one-trillion-dollar economy.

Simultaneously, President Samia Suluhu Hassan is hosting the Africa50 General Shareholders’ Meeting and Infra for Africa Forum in Dar es Salaam. The summit brings together six other African Heads of State to secure financing for critical projects, including the Port of Dar es Salaam and the Standard Gauge Railway. The forum focuses on accelerating continental development through public-private partnerships.
