Toshiba Redesigns Hiring and Training for AI Integration

Jason Richard Desentz is implementing new hiring strategies and AI training at Toshiba to shift employee focus from technical tasks to critical thinking.

Chief Human Resources Officer for the Americas Jason Richard Desentz is redesigning hiring and training strategies at Toshiba to adapt to the integration of artificial intelligence. To prevent junior employees from missing critical skill development, the company deployed AI bots to manage transactional tasks such as resume screening. This shift allows recruiters to function as consultants focusing on manager intake and employee onboarding.

Desentz has modified the interview process to prioritize critical thinking, data literacy, and comfort with ambiguity over specific technical skills like Excel proficiency. To mitigate employee fears of obsolescence and encourage adoption, Toshiba provides AI basics courses and hosts internal competitions where staff present AI bots they developed for specific use cases.

Desentz stated, "The work is changing. We’re going to navigate this together."
