Pfizer Plans to Cut 330 Jobs at Sicily Plant
Pfizer Inc. plans to eliminate approximately 330 positions at its manufacturing facility in Sicily, Italy, following failed negotiations with the Italian industry ministry.
Pfizer Inc. plans to eliminate approximately 330 positions at its manufacturing facility in Sicily, Italy, according to labor unions. The proposed cuts would affect about 60% of the plant's 550 employees.
A meeting held Tuesday evening in Rome between the company and Italy's industry ministry failed to produce an agreement to prevent the layoffs. Pfizer has not yet issued a formal announcement regarding the restructuring.
Industry Minister Adolfo Urso is scheduled to visit the Sicily plant on October 23, with further talks between the company and the ministry set for November 10. These potential cuts follow other recent restructuring efforts in Italy, including a plan by Electrolux to affect 1,250 workers and a voluntary restructuring program by Ericsson in Genoa.
