Northern Ashanti Mines Sues Ghana to Block Mine Seizure
Northern Ashanti Mines Limited filed a court injunction to prevent the Ghanaian government from seizing its US$110 million mining investment in the Ashanti Region.
Northern Ashanti Mines Limited filed an interlocutory injunction in the High Court of Accra to stop the Ghanaian government from seizing its US$110 million mining investment at Konongo. The company seeks to restrain the Minerals Commission, the Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, and the Attorney-General from deploying the Ghana Armed Forces and the Ghana Police Service to occupy the mine.
The legal action aims to block the enforcement of a lease termination communicated in a letter dated April 30, 2026. Northern Ashanti Mines Limited is also requesting that the court prevent the transfer of mineral rights in the Asante Akim District to any third parties.
This injunction follows a judicial review application filed on October 21, 2026, which challenges the legality of the lease termination and seeks to have the decision quashed. The motion for the injunction is scheduled to be moved on October 29, 2026.
