Black Voting Groups Launch Campaigns Against Election Disinformation
Black voting organizations and influencers are deploying defensive campaigns and playbooks to combat AI-driven disinformation ahead of the November midterm elections.
Black voting organizations and influencers are launching defensive campaigns to combat election-related disinformation ahead of the November midterm elections. Onyx Impact is leading the effort with the release of a 41-page propaganda playbook designed to help Black voters identify deceptive tactics such as context extraction and cynicism bombing.
These mobilization efforts respond to the rapid spread of racist fakes and deceptive content enabled by artificial intelligence. Activists note that the risk of diluted Black representation has increased following a Supreme Court of the United States decision that weakened the Voting Rights Act.
Other organizations are supporting the push through research and educational resources. The NAACP and the Brennan Center for Justice are providing guides to counter influence operations intended to suppress Black political participation, while the Joint Center for Political and Economic Studies has analyzed the precision of modern voter manipulation.
