Baloch Activists Report State Terrorism to UN Human Rights Council
Baloch human rights defenders and political leaders urged the United Nations to investigate enforced disappearances and military airstrikes in Balochistan during a session in Geneva.
Human rights defenders and members of the Baloch National Movement presented evidence of systemic abuses in Balochistan during the 63rd Session of the United Nations Human Rights Council in Geneva on October 1, 2026.
Mahrah Baloch and Mahra Abdul Jalil reported that Baloch women and girls face enforced disappearances, arbitrary detention, torture, and extrajudicial killings. Mahrah Baloch characterized the conduct of Pakistani authorities as "state terrorism." Other activists highlighted specific cases, including the disappearance of polio survivor Mahjabeen Baloch and the prosecution of Dr. Sabiha Baloch.
Reports also detailed military aggression in the region. Ahmed Baloch reported that a Pakistan Army airstrike in Surab on September 12, 2026, killed six civilians, including a woman and a child. He contested official claims that the deaths were caused by concealed explosive devices, citing evidence of aerial bombardment. BNM Chairman Naseem Baloch further accused the government of using military force and political engineering to suppress the Baloch national question.
The activists called for the implementation of independent monitoring, transparent investigations, and an end to airstrikes. They urged the Government of Pakistan to respect international human rights obligations and recognize the right of the Baloch people to self-determination.
