ADP CEO Says AI Reshapes Tasks Rather Than Eliminating Jobs

Maria Fishman Cook, CEO of ADP, asserts that artificial intelligence is reshaping the nature of work at a task level rather than eliminating jobs on a large scale. Drawing on payroll data from 42 million workers worldwide and research conducted with the Stanford Digital Economy Lab, Cook describes a process of the great job unbundling.

This shift involves AI automating routine tasks, which in turn increases the value of strategic thinking and human judgment. Data shows a divergence in employment trends: early-career workers in vulnerable fields such as customer service and software development have seen declines. Conversely, experienced workers in those same roles and employees in less exposed occupations, such as home healthcare, remain stable or continue to grow.

Cook suggests that businesses should view AI as a teammate that enhances productivity rather than a replacement for the workforce. She notes that AI users report lower stress and higher engagement, indicating that the technology evolves the workforce by changing how specific tasks are performed.
