BJP Mahila Morcha Protests Karnataka Milk Price Hike
The BJP Mahila Morcha staged statewide protests in Karnataka against an 8 rupee per litre increase in Nandini milk prices.
The BJP Mahila Morcha organized statewide protests across Karnataka on Monday to oppose a recent hike in Nandini brand milk prices. The Karnataka Cabinet implemented an 8 rupee per litre increase effective November 1, allocating 7 rupees for farmers and 1 rupee for cooperatives.
In Bengaluru, Union Minister Shobha Karandlaje led a demonstration at Freedom Park where she and other leaders were detained by police during an attempted march. Karandlaje criticized the administration for inadequate drought relief and demanded that the Congress government either roll back the price increases or resign to avoid a state uprising.
Simultaneous protests occurred in Hubballi at Durgad Bail, where district president Seema Ladwa led activists in burning posters of Chief Minister DK Shivakumar. Protesters in Hubballi prepared tea without milk to symbolize the financial strain on households. The BJP argues that the state government should use the exchequer to provide farmer incentives rather than passing costs to consumers.
