India and Qatar Aim to Double Bilateral Trade by 2030
India's Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal and Qatar's Foreign Trade Minister Ahmed bin Mohammed Al Sayed met virtually to discuss supply chain resilience and a trade agreement.
India's Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal and Qatar's Minister of State for Foreign Trade Affairs Ahmed bin Mohammed Al Sayed held a virtual meeting on April 23, 2026. The two officials focused on enhancing bilateral trade and investment ties while strengthening supply chain resilience, a priority driven by current cargo ship disruptions in international waters resulting from US and Israeli attacks on Iran.
India and Qatar are working to double their bilateral trade by 2030, following a volume of USD 14 billion recorded in 2024-25. As part of this effort, the two nations are exploring the creation of a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA).
These discussions occur as India continues to negotiate a broader free trade agreement with the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC). Minister Goyal has held similar trade talks with other GCC member states, including Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Bahrain, Kuwait, and Oman, to align economic interests across the region.
