Ireland Manufacturing Sector Expands in October

Ireland's manufacturing sector grew in October as rising customer demand and export orders offset significant input cost pressures.

The manufacturing sector in Ireland expanded in October, with the AIB Ireland Manufacturing PMI reaching 55.2. While this figure is a slight decrease from the 55.5 recorded in September, it remains well above the 50.0 neutral threshold, indicating continued growth.

Allied Irish Banks reported that growth was driven by production capacity upgrades and rising customer demand. New order volumes accelerated from both domestic and overseas clients, with export orders increasing for the ninth consecutive month. This growth led companies to increase staffing levels to a three-month high to manage rising workloads.

Despite the expansion, the sector faced significant cost pressures. Input inflation hit a four-month high, driven by the rising costs of raw materials, fuel, and energy. To offset these transportation and production costs, manufacturers increased factory gate charges at the fastest pace since June.

David McNamara, AIB chief economist, stated that Ireland's manufacturing performance currently exceeds that of the United Kingdom and the Eurozone, though it continues to trail the United States.
