Acer Unveils Vero 16 Laptop with Processor Upgrade Support

Acer unveiled the Vero 16 laptop at IFA 2026 in Berlin, introducing the fourth generation of its sustainability-focused Vero line. The device emphasizes repairability through toolless access to the battery and SSD, alongside replaceable hinge mechanisms and port covers.

In a departure from standard laptop design, the company claims the hardware supports processor upgrades for at least two generations. These specific upgrades must be performed by an Acer service center rather than the user. The laptop is equipped with up to an Intel Core Ultra X9 388H processor, 32GB of LPDDR5X RAM, and a 16-inch OLED display available in 3K or 1200p resolutions.

The chassis utilizes recycled materials, including 60% post-consumer plastic in the bottom panel and a combination of low-carbon and recycled aluminum in the palm rest. The Vero 16 is scheduled for release outside North America in the first quarter of 2027, with UK pricing starting at £1,599.
