Qatar and Allies Propose De-escalation Plan for US-Iran Conflict

The Government of Qatar is leading a series of diplomatic initiatives to defuse regional tensions following a conflict between the United States and Iran. Working with Pakistan and Jordan, Qatar is acting as a primary intermediary, exchanging messages between Washington and Tehran to restore stability.

In Doha, Qatar's Minister of Interior, Sheikh Khalifa bin Hamad, met with Pakistan's Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi to strengthen bilateral security cooperation. The two nations jointly presented a de-escalation proposal that urges the United States and Iran to return to their pre-July 9 positions. This measure is intended as a confidence-building step to revive negotiations and secure a lasting settlement to the hostilities.

Parallel to these efforts, Qatar's Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani, coordinated with Jordan's Deputy Prime Minister Ayman Safadi via telephone. The officials emphasized the necessity of adhering to dialogue and the implementation of the Memorandum of Understanding between the United States and the Islamic Republic of Iran. Specifically, they highlighted the importance of maintaining freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz to prevent further regional destabilization.
