German Wholesale Prices Hit Highest Annual Jump Since 2023
German wholesale prices rose 8.7% annually in September 2026, driven by surging energy and metal costs linked to Middle East conflict.
Wholesale prices in Germany rose 1.9% month-over-month in September 2026, resulting in an annual increase of 8.7%. This marks the steepest annual price jump for the country since February 2023.
Germany experienced the surge primarily through a 48.8% year-over-year increase in mineral oil products and a 24.9% increase in non-ferrous ores and metals. These price hikes stem from the conflict in the Middle East, which has inflated the cost of intermediate goods and energy products.
Economists warn that these persistent input cost pressures may eventually force businesses to pass expenses to consumers. Such a shift could complicate inflation management efforts for the European Central Bank.
