The Maine Department of Transportation is starting a pavement preservation project on Interstate 95 in Augusta to improve lanes and ramps near Exit 109.
The Maine Department of Transportation began a pavement preservation project on Interstate 95 in Augusta on Thursday, August 20, 2026. The work focuses on the area surrounding Exit 109 at the Western Avenue interchange, covering approximately 3.26 miles on the northbound side starting north of the Hallowell city line and 3.28 miles on the southbound side starting south of Old Belgrade Road.
The project includes improvements to the 109A southbound and 109 northbound ramps and approaches. All States Construction of Richmond is the contractor for the work, which is expected to be completed by the fall. This paving phase follows nearly two years of construction to replace the bridge carrying Western Avenue over the interstate. Drivers are being notified of lane and ramp closures through electronic message boards.
