APC Wins Majority of By-Elections and Ekiti Governorship

The All Progressives Congress (APC) secured five of six by-elections conducted by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), including the Ondo South Senatorial seat. While the party viewed its results in Enugu as positive, leadership described the Ondo South performance as unimpressive due to low voter turnout, which some members attributed to internal divisions and Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa's failure to unite stakeholders. In Rivers, the Peoples Democratic Party retained the Rivers South East Senatorial seat.

In Ekiti State, Governor Biodun Oyebanji won a historic landslide victory in the June 20 governorship election with 319,224 votes, becoming the first governor in the state's history to win two consecutive mandates. He and Deputy Governor Monisade Afuye received their Certificates of Return in Ado-Ekiti on June 23. Oyebanji credited the improved electoral performance to the amended Electoral Act and pledged to expand his Shared Prosperity Agenda focusing on infrastructure and healthcare.

Opposition candidates challenged the integrity of several polls. In Enugu, Nigeria Democratic Congress candidate Oscar Ossai rejected the results of the Enugu North Senatorial by-election, alleging vote buying and the non-use of accreditation systems. Similarly, Social Democratic Party candidate Peter Obafemi alleged widespread intimidation and vote-buying during the Ekiti election, claiming he witnessed politicians with bags of money protected by police. INEC officials defended the processes as professional and credible.
