Trenton Withdraws Annexation Petition for Amazon Data Center Campus

The City of Trenton withdrew its petition to annex approximately 600 acres of land in Madison and St. Clair townships, effectively halting the development of a proposed 18-building Amazon Web Services data center campus. The withdrawal occurred just before a scheduled public hearing by the Butler County Board of Commissioners.

This decision follows formal objections from Madison and St. Clair townships, which cited concerns regarding noise, traffic, and visibility. Both Butler County and St. Clair Township have already implemented moratoriums on large-scale data center development. The move also coincides with a pending November ballot measure in Trenton that would ban data centers of 25 megawatts or more within city limits.

While the city and property owners did not explicitly link the withdrawal to the upcoming election, petitioners requested to reschedule the annexation hearing for on or after November 10. City Attorney Nick Ziepfel noted that petitioners reserve the right to refile for annexation in the future.
