Peter Obi Rejects Atiku Alliance Ahead of 2027 Election

Presidential candidate Peter Obi of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) rejected proposals to form a political alliance with Atiku Abubakar, the candidate for the African Democratic Congress (ADC). Journalist and ADC chieftain Dele Momodu revealed that Obi dismissed suggestions to partner with Abubakar, claiming he is more popular than the former vice president.

Obi is currently preparing for the 2027 general elections, having selected Rabi’u Kwankwaso as his running mate. Sam Amadi, Director of the Abuja School of Social and Political Thought, described the Obi-Kwankwaso ticket as a strategic effort to expand Obi's electoral map across Northern Nigeria and create a significant challenge for Abubakar.

Amadi characterized Obi and the Obidient movement as the most transformative force in Nigerian politics over the last 25 years, comparing their youth-led disruption to the political climate of the 1960s. However, Amadi warned that the upcoming campaign cycle will likely be marked by contrived narratives and an increase in hate speech.
