Indian-American Democrats Contest Key House Races in Midterms

Amish Shah and Pia Dandiya are competing in critical US House races in Arizona and Florida as early voting begins for the November 3 elections.

Democratic candidates Amish Shah and Pia Dandiya are contesting pivotal US House of Representatives races in the midterm elections scheduled for November 3. Shah, a physician and former state representative, is running in Arizona's First District against Republican Jay Feely. Feely has received an endorsement from President Donald Trump, leading Shah to claim that "Trump and his allies are spending millions to get their golf buddy elected." Shah has centered his campaign on protecting healthcare and lowering costs.

In Florida's 22nd district, former high school principal Pia Dandiya is competing against Republican Casey Askar. Dandiya's campaign emphasizes education and affordability, with supporters suggesting the capital could use "high school principal energy in DC right about now."

Early voting has commenced in both states. Non-partisan analysis from the Cook Political Report classifies Shah's race as lean Democratic and Dandiya's as a toss-up. Prediction market Kalshi projects higher victory probabilities for the Democratic candidates, estimating an 80 percent chance for Shah and a 60 percent chance for Dandiya. Both contests are viewed as essential to the Democratic Party's strategy to flip the US House.
