Jamie Raskin Investigates 1789 Capital Over Trump Ties
Representative Jamie Raskin launched an investigation into 1789 Capital to determine if the firm used administration ties to inflate investment returns.
Representative Jamie Raskin, the top Democrat on the House Judiciary Committee, launched an investigation into 1789 Capital, a venture capital firm tied to Donald Trump Jr. The probe examines the firm's rapid growth, with assets under management increasing from a few hundred million to approximately $3 billion after Donald Trump Jr. became a partner following his father's second election victory.
Raskin is investigating whether portfolio companies, including Polymarket, Juul Labs Inc., Anduril Industries Inc., and Vulcan Elements Inc., received preferential treatment through administration funding, government contracts, or regulatory changes. He has requested due diligence records, a full list of portfolio companies, and communications with government officials, while ordering the firm to preserve all relevant documents.
Because Republicans currently control the House, Raskin lacks the authority to compel cooperation from the firm. However, he may acquire subpoena power if Democrats secure the majority in the upcoming midterm elections.
