AMC Entertainment Reports Record Revenue and Surprise Adjusted Profit

AMC Entertainment reported record second-quarter revenue of $1.6 billion and a surprise adjusted profit, driving a surge in its share price.

AMC Entertainment Holdings Inc. reported record second-quarter 2026 revenue of $1.6 billion on July 20, exceeding analyst estimates of $1.47 billion. The company achieved a surprise adjusted profit of 14 cents per share, beating expectations of a 6-cent loss, and reached a record adjusted EBITDA of $321.4 million, a 69.6% increase over the previous year.

Growth was driven by a strong summer slate, including "The Super Mario Galaxy Movie," "Obsession," and Christopher Nolan's "The Odyssey," which earned $124 million during its opening weekend. U.S. attendance rose 12% while international attendance increased by approximately 18%. The recovery is supported by commitments from studios such as The Walt Disney Company and Comcast's Universal to maintain exclusive theatrical windows.

CEO Adam Aron characterized the period as the biggest box office quarter in seven years and the fifth-biggest ever. He predicted that 2026 will be the strongest post-pandemic year for the industry and dismissed market skeptics he called "prognosticators of doom."

Despite the strong results, the company's net loss widened to $11.40 million due to $109.60 million in other expenses. AMC shares surged more than 20% following the announcement, though the stock remains down 99% over a five-year period due to historical volatility and shareholder dilution from capital raises.
