May Day Strong Coalition Demands Affordability Agenda After Election

The May Day Strong coalition is demanding that the new Congress lower living costs and end ICE raids following a victory for working-class voters.

The May Day Strong coalition, a network of more than 600 labor and immigrants' rights groups, announced that record voter turnout in recent elections secured a victory for working people over the billionaire class. Coalition leaders, including representatives from the Chicago Teachers Union and People's Action, characterized the results as a resounding rejection of the Trump administration's policies regarding austerity, racism, and corporate greed.

Following the results, the coalition is demanding that the newly elected Congress implement a Lower Prices, Higher Wages Affordability Agenda. This proposed legislative package aims to reduce the costs of healthcare, groceries, and rent while increasing wages for workers. Additionally, the group is calling for the immediate cessation of ICE raids and the creation of a legal pathway to citizenship for immigrant workers.

To ensure the election results are certified and Congress is seated by January 3, May Day Strong plans to maintain pressure through corporate campaigns and mass mobilizations. Leaders emphasized that the victory provides an opportunity to meet the needs of working families and move away from a regime they described as anti-democratic.
