Byron Donalds Wins Florida Republican Gubernatorial Primary
Representative Byron Donalds won the Florida Republican primary for Governor and will face Democrat David Jolly in the general election.
Republican primary voters in Florida selected Byron Donalds on Tuesday to run for Governor, succeeding Ron DeSantis. Donalds secured 48% of the vote to defeat Lieutenant Governor Jay Collins. A supporter of Donald Trump's agenda, Donalds has proposed implementing "DOGE-style reviews" of taxpayer-funded programs, creating an Insurer Scorecard to compare insurance rates, and requiring doctors to post cash prices for common services.
Donalds will face former Republican Representative David Jolly in the general election, with Jolly now running as a Democrat. Jolly's platform focuses on capping utility-company profits, expanding Medicaid, and codifying Roe v. Wade.
Other primary results saw Democratic voters nominate State Representative Angie Nixon for the U.S. Senate seat currently held by Republican Ashley Moody. In separate races, Republican Representative Cory Mills lost his primary following misconduct allegations, while Democratic Representative Jared Moskowitz defeated a socialist challenger.
