ASML and Micron Expand Capacity Amid AI Infrastructure Boom

ASML Holding and Micron Technology are expanding production and securing long-term supply deals to meet surging AI-driven demand for semiconductor equipment and memory chips.

The AI infrastructure boom is driving explosive growth for semiconductor equipment and memory providers. ASML Holding reported strong third-quarter 2026 results on October 14, selling 113 lithography systems compared to 66 in the previous year. CEO Christophe Fouquet stated that demand for advanced chipmaking equipment will likely outpace supply through at least 2028, leading the company to expand production capacity beyond its original 30% target.

This surge extends to memory and storage providers. Micron Technology ended fiscal 2026 with revenue of $133.19 billion, a 256% year-over-year increase, and provided first-quarter 2027 revenue guidance of $61.5 billion. To manage the structural shortage of memory for AI workloads, Micron has entered into multiyear supply commitment agreements to match future demand. Other storage firms, including Seagate Technology Holdings and Western Digital Inc., also saw significant stock rallies in 2026, rising 154% and 119% respectively.

Key partners in the ecosystem are forecasting continued growth. Nvidia expects its chip sales to double next year and anticipates a 70% revenue increase in fiscal 2028. While the current trajectory is strong, Micron leadership noted a lack of visibility regarding when supply and demand will eventually balance, citing the historically cyclical nature of memory pricing.
