Shenzhen Launches 100-Day Countdown to APEC Leaders Meeting

Shenzhen launched a 100-day countdown to the 33rd APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting while showcasing its urban ecological governance and mangrove conservation models.

Shenzhen began a 100-day countdown to the 33rd Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Economic Leaders' Meeting on August 10, 2026. The city marked the milestone with themed installations and bulletin boards across the urban landscape.

Shenzhen Municipal Government is using the lead-up to the summit to highlight its ecological governance, specifically the balance between rapid urban development and environmental preservation. The city released a white paper titled "A City of Symbiosis: The Shenzhen Practice of Harmonious Coexistence between Humanity and Nature" to share its conservation models with other Asia-Pacific economies. These practices include the use of artificial intelligence to protect migratory birds and the preservation of mangrove forests in the Futian District.

The countdown follows the APEC Ministerial Meeting on Forestry, where representatives from 21 economies signed a joint statement focused on blue carbon conservation and sustainable forest management. International officials have noted the city's progress, with Mexico expressing specific interest in cooperating with China on mangrove restoration. The International Mangrove Center, based in Shenzhen, continues to lead joint research into blue carbon standards and cross-border restoration efforts.
