Google Prepares Launch of Gemini 3.8 Flash Coding Model

Google is preparing to release Gemini 3.8 Flash, a DeepMind-developed AI model optimized for software development and coding tasks.

Google is preparing to launch Gemini 3.8 Flash, a new artificial intelligence model developed by DeepMind that focuses on coding and software development. Internally known as Skimaki, the model could be released as early as Wednesday.

Internal testing conducted through Google's coding platform, Jetski, indicates that Gemini 3.8 Flash outperforms the previous Gemini 3.7 Flash. The results also show that engineers prefer the new model over the Opus model from competitor Anthropic.

This development follows the August 13 launch of Gemini 3.7 Flash, which the company positioned as a workhorse for AI agents and complex software engineering. The rapid release cycle demonstrates a strategy to strengthen Google's capabilities in generative AI for writing code, debugging, and managing long software-engineering workflows.
