Google and Adani Group Launch $15 Billion AI Hub in India

Google broke ground on a $15 billion AI data center hub in Visakhapatnam, partnering with the Adani Group to establish the company's largest AI investment outside the US.

On April 28, 2026, Google broke ground on a $15 billion artificial intelligence data center hub in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh. The project, developed through Google subsidiary Raiden Infotech in partnership with the Adani Group and Bharti Airtel, is the company's largest AI hub investment outside the United States. The facility will provide 1 gigawatt of capacity across three campuses in Tarluvada, Rambilli, and Adavivaram, utilizing subsea cable links to connect India with 16 countries. It is expected to be operational by late 2028.

During the ceremony, Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu highlighted the hub as an economic growth engine. Jeet Adani, Director of Adani Digital Labs, announced a broader $100 billion commitment from the Adani Group to develop an integrated infrastructure platform for energy and digital networks to lower computing costs. Meanwhile, Union IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw urged the industry to localize server manufacturing and semiconductor packaging within India.

The project faces immediate competition from Reliance Industries, which recently received approval to invest approximately $17 billion (₹1.6 lakh crore) in a larger 1.5-GW data center cluster in the same region. Reliance plans to develop its site in three phases, targeting full capacity by 2030. Other AI infrastructure moves in India include Nvidia's $130 million expansion of its engineering presence in Bengaluru and Vertical Data Inc.'s opening of a new office in New Delhi to support GPU financing and sovereign AI programs.
