Global Fund Managers Increase Japanese Government Bond Investments
Global investment firms are increasing holdings of Japanese government bonds as rising yields and expected rate hikes attract international capital.
Global fund managers are increasing their investments in Japanese government bonds, reversing a cautious trend seen earlier this year. Investors are now drawn to elevated yields, which are supported by recovering domestic demand and a more favorable policy environment.
Several major firms have adjusted their strategies to capitalize on this shift. T. Rowe Price Group has moved its preference toward bonds with longer maturities, while Allianz Global Investors is selectively adding intermediate- and long-dated bonds. BNP Paribas Asset Management has further increased its exposure to super-long debt.
This bullish turn follows a period of hesitation where investors feared the Bank of Japan was raising interest rates too slowly and worried that increased fiscal spending would swell the debt supply. Current confidence is driven by expectations for further rate hikes by the Bank of Japan and a return of demand from insurance companies.
