European Union Delays Vote on Tesla Full Self-Driving

The European Union has delayed a vote on whether to authorize the use of Tesla's supervised Full Self-Driving (FSD) system across the bloc. Although the company indicated a potential vote could occur on October 6, the agenda for the Technical Committee on Motor Vehicles lists only a 25-minute continuation of discussions regarding a request from the Dutch regulator RDW.

An EU-wide rollout requires a qualified majority of 15 of the 27 member states, representing 65 percent of the population. While the RDW and Belgium have already approved the system, other member states, including Sweden, have raised concerns that the software may exceed speed limits. The next opportunity for a formal decision is not expected until December.

Tesla considers the approval essential for increasing European sales and regaining market share against competitors from China. The Technical Committee on Motor Vehicles, which includes representatives from member states and the European Commission, remains the deciding body for the authorization.
