Unifor and General Motors Reach Tentative Autoworker Agreements

Unifor and General Motors reached tentative labor agreements for over 4,600 autoworkers in Ontario, providing wage increases and benefits.

Unifor and General Motors reached tentative labor agreements covering more than 4,600 autoworkers at Ontario facilities, including the Oshawa assembly plant, the CAMI facility in Ingersoll, and operations in St. Catharines and Woodstock.

Unifor National President Lana Payne stated the deals provide strong increases in wages and benefits. The agreements follow a pattern established in a previous deal with Ford, which included three percent annual pay increases and a no-closure agreement. Jack Uppal, president and managing director of GM Canada, noted that the deal builds on the company's investments in Canadian manufacturing.

Union members are scheduled to ratify the contracts during meetings on August 29 and 30. Following this agreement, Unifor plans to begin negotiations with Stellantis. These talks occur amid broader industry challenges, including U.S. tariffs and the decision by the Trump administration not to extend the Canada-United States-Mexico Agreement.
