Murli Manohar Joshi Calls for Supreme Court Election Oversight
Murli Manohar Joshi urged the Supreme Court of India to intervene in constitutional violations and criticized the use of force against student protesters.
Bharatiya Janata Party veteran Murli Manohar Joshi called for the Supreme Court of India to intervene if constitutional violations occur during elections. Speaking at the 21st FICCI Higher Education Summit 2026 in New Delhi, Joshi stated that fair elections, accountable governments, and transparent administration are essential for a functioning democracy.
These remarks come amid political tension involving Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. Opposition parties have demanded Kumar's resignation following allegations that the Special Intensive Revision process resulted in the deletion of genuine voters from electoral rolls.
Beyond election integrity, Joshi addressed the government's handling of student unrest. He urged officials to resolve student protests through dialogue and sympathy, asserting that the use of batons is not an appropriate method for addressing student concerns.
