Gulf Sovereign Wealth Funds Assets Grow to $5 Trillion

Sovereign wealth funds of the Gulf Co-operation Council now manage over $5 trillion in global assets, focusing heavily on artificial intelligence and international private credit.

Sovereign wealth funds belonging to the six member states of the Gulf Co-operation Council—Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates—now manage more than $5 trillion in global assets. This represents a significant increase from the $3 trillion managed in 2021.

Since 2021, these funds have deployed over $430 billion in capital. Approximately 75% of these investments have been directed toward international assets. Notable targets include artificial intelligence firms, TikTok, Premier League football clubs, and private credit.

Despite this growth, the combined $6 trillion treasure chest of these Gulf nations faces risks. Ongoing regional conflict is complicating the management of these hydrocarbon-funded fortunes and threatens to drain the region's total financial reserves.
