DoorDash Launches DoorDash Air After Receiving FAA Certification

DoorDash launched DoorDash Air, an in-house drone delivery service, after receiving FAA Part 135 certification to operate commercial aircraft in the United States.

DoorDash Inc. launched DoorDash Air on July 29, 2026, following the receipt of Part 135 air carrier certification from the Federal Aviation Administration. Developed by the company's robotics and autonomy unit, DoorDash Labs, the program utilizes proprietary aircraft manufactured in the United States using primarily American-made components. The service targets mid-range deliveries of three to five miles, which the company notes currently take 25% longer to fulfill than shorter trips.

DoorDash plans to launch the service in the fall, with further details expected at its annual product event in September. While the company will maintain partnerships with Wing and Flytrex, its in-house drones aim to reduce reliance on human labor and cut delivery times for remote locations. The company intends to use an Autonomous Delivery Platform to coordinate real-time operations between drones, human drivers, and Dot sidewalk robots.

Alongside the aviation expansion, the company integrated with Shopify to allow independent retailers to automatically synchronize product catalogs and inventory. DoorDash also introduced dd-cli, a command-line tool in limited beta for macOS users in the U.S. and Canada. This tool enables developers to create AI agents capable of autonomously searching stores and placing orders without human input.
