FSSAI Issues Nine Notices to Swiggy Instamart Over Expired Food
The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India issued nine notices to Swiggy Instamart for food safety violations while resolving a licensing issue for its Toing platform.
The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) issued nine notices to Swiggy Limited Instamart following numerous consumer complaints regarding the delivery of expired, spoiled, and contaminated food products. The regulator specifically flagged the sale of rotten Akshayakalpa Organic Eggs, spoiled Kakke da Paratha, and contaminated infant formula. Additional allegations include the distribution of expired Healthify 100% Whey Protein and Noice Homestyle Madras Mixture. FSSAI also noted that certain items, including eggs from the NOICE brand, were sold without valid licenses, while other listed entities used incorrect or non-existent FSSAI license numbers.
In response to these violations, the regulator has demanded a detailed explanation and a comprehensive compliance report covering inventory management, quality assurance, and grievance redressal. The agency warned that failure to provide these reports could result in formal action under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006.
Separately, the company resolved a regulatory dispute regarding its budget-focused delivery platform, Toing. On July 6, 2026, the FSSAI designated officer in Karnataka issued a prohibition order citing gaps in administrative documentation and the updating of license particulars. Swiggy addressed these observations and received a modified license on July 9, 2026. In stock exchange filings, the company stated the Toing matter "involved no food safety concerns" and resulted in no monetary penalties or major financial impact. Swiggy admitted to a delay in informing the exchanges because it was evaluating its next steps after the initial prohibition order.
