Apple Reports Conflict Over 20th Anniversary All-Glass iPhone

Conflicting reports have emerged regarding the development of a radical all-glass iPhone intended to mark the device's 20th anniversary in September 2027. Apple Inc. is reportedly working on designs internally referred to as V73 and V74, which feature glass on the front and back curving into the sides with a central metal band.

Edison Lee, an analyst at Jefferies, reported that Apple canceled the project because of poor manufacturing yields and technical failures with a custom micro-curved OLED panel. Lee noted that these issues caused edge distortion and reduced brightness. This report triggered a 2.8% drop in Apple shares, as investors viewed the device as a primary vehicle for increasing average selling prices to approximately $2,060.

Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman contradicted these claims, stating the project remains on track. Separately, Apple is preparing to launch the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max next month, with plans for a foldable iPhone and a second-generation iPhone Air to follow in the spring. The company is also preparing for a leadership transition as John Ternus is scheduled to take over as CEO on September 1.
