Tesco Partners With Uber Eats and Deliveroo for Rapid Delivery
Tesco is expanding its rapid grocery delivery reach by partnering with Uber Eats and Deliveroo to offer Clubcard benefits on third-party platforms.
Tesco announced partnerships with Uber Eats and Deliveroo to expand its rapid grocery delivery capabilities across the United Kingdom. The rollout begins with Uber Eats in August, with Deliveroo following later in the summer. For the first time on third-party platforms, customers will be able to link their Clubcard accounts to access exclusive prices and earn points.
These collaborations will operate alongside Whoosh, the company's in-house store-to-door service launched in 2021. Whoosh currently serves 1.5 million customers from 1,800 stores, covering over 70% of the UK population, and recorded 51% sales growth last year. The company's online grocery arm is valued at £7.5 billion.
The expansion comes as the retailer reportedly considers selling its Central and Eastern European operations to refocus its international presence on the UK and Ireland. Executives from all three companies characterized the move as a response to the growing demand for on-demand grocery shopping and a means to leverage the scale of established delivery networks to reach a wider customer base.
