Farooq Abdullah Accuses Election Commission of Targeting Muslim Voters
National Conference president Farooq Abdullah accused the Election Commission of India of selectively deleting Muslim voters from rolls to benefit the ruling government.
National Conference president Farooq Abdullah accused Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and the Election Commission of India of selectively deleting Muslims from voter rolls during the SIR exercise. Speaking at the fifth Halla Bolle conclave, Abdullah asserted that the government targeted specific demographics to maintain power and claimed the Chief Election Commissioner is biased toward the BJP and the Sangh.
Abdullah argued that the Election Commission lacks necessary autonomy because the appointment process is dominated by the majority government. He maintained that the removal of Indian citizens from voter lists is a violation of constitutional rights.
Highlighting recent protests in Mumbai and Delhi, Abdullah cited these demonstrations as evidence of growing public courage and a demand for change. He specifically praised AISA national president Neha Bora for confronting police officers during these protests against the Chief Election Commissioner and the SIR exercise.
