Indian Stock Indices Rise as Crude Oil Prices Ease

The BSE Sensex and NSE Nifty climbed on Monday, driven by falling Brent crude prices despite continued selling by foreign institutional investors.

The BSE Sensex and NSE Nifty climbed in early trade on Monday, October 12, 2026, extending a rally from the previous Friday. The Sensex rose from an initial gain of 178 points to a peak increase of 329.31 points, reaching 72,801.64. Simultaneously, the Nifty 50 gained 113.30 points to reach 22,633.75.

Market growth was supported by easing oil prices, with Brent crude declining approximately 1.5% to roughly $103.1 per barrel. Sectoral gains were led by automotive, realty, metal, and IT firms. Individual gainers included Bajaj Auto, Bharat Electronics, Mahindra & Mahindra, and Tata Steel, while Tech Mahindra and Axis Bank lagged.

Despite the upward movement, analysts from Geojit Investments Limited and Axis Direct warned that the market remains fragile. This instability is attributed to elevated global bond yields and persistent selling by foreign institutional investors, who offloaded equities worth ₹3,568.90 crore during the previous session. Experts suggest that a more significant rally depends on further declines in crude prices following developments in the Middle East.
