Canada and Germany Deepen Agricultural and Bioeconomics Cooperation
Canada and Germany agreed to expand research partnerships in bioeconomics and maintain rules-based trade following a bilateral meeting in Paris.
Canada and Germany issued a joint statement on October 19, 2026, announcing a commitment to deepen cooperation in the agricultural and food sectors. The agreement followed a bilateral meeting held the previous day during the G7 Agriculture Ministers’ Meeting in Paris.
Heath MacDonald, Canada's Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food, and German Federal Minister of Agriculture, Food and Regional Identity Alois Rainer agreed to explore new research partnerships. These initiatives will focus specifically on bioeconomics and the trade of forest and agricultural products.
Both nations further committed to maintaining free and rules-based trade under the Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA). The two governments intend to use this framework to expand mutual trade opportunities between the two countries.
