Alliant Energy Raises Capital Forecast to $15.9 Billion

Alliant Energy increased its capital expenditure forecast by 19% to support surging power demand from AI-driven data centers.

Alliant Energy increased its four-year capital expenditure forecast by 19% to $15.9 billion for the period between 2027 and 2030. The Madison, Wisconsin-based utility is responding to rapid AI adoption and electrification, which the company expects will drive a peak demand increase of more than 60% across its system by 2031.

The company expects to sign contracts for approximately 1 gigawatt of additional data-center demand within the next six months. This new load will supplement 3.4 GW already contracted with Google, Meta Platforms, and QTS Data Centers. Chief Financial Officer Robert Durian stated that this additional capacity is expected to ramp up between 2029 and 2031.

As part of its current expansion, Alliant Energy expects Meta to begin taking transmission service in Wisconsin in the first quarter of 2027.
