U.S. Senate Passes Bill to Curb Foreign Robocalls

The United States Senate passed a bill to crack down on robocalls originating from outside the United States to protect citizens from foreign scams. The legislative action follows data showing a persistent rise in unwanted automated calls targeting American consumers.

Blocking service YouMail reported that Americans received 4.3 billion robocalls in July 2026. While daily volumes were slightly lower than in June, unwanted robocalls increased by nearly 6 percent, totaling over 2.1 billion calls. The most problematic campaigns involved fraudulent loan offers claiming consumers qualified for up to $45,000, which generated more than 40 million calls.

YouMail identified high-impact activity in area codes associated with Houston, Atlanta, and Indianapolis. The service noted that monthly robocall volumes have been slowly creeping upward, remaining more than 15 percent above the lowest levels recorded in October 2025.
