Intel Installs First Structural Truss at Delayed Ohio Plant

Intel installed the first major structural truss at its New Albany fabrication plant, though completion is now delayed until 2030.

Intel installed the first major structural truss on Wednesday at its semiconductor fabrication plant in New Albany, Ohio. The project is running at least five years behind its original 2022 schedule, with completion now targeted for 2030 and a second fab expected in 2031.

Intel shifted to a more cautious turnaround strategy under CEO Lip-Bu Tan, who took over in 2025 to prioritize customer demand over aggressive expansion. While the company is in high-volume production of 18A chips at its Arizona facility, it has not yet secured a major external customer for that node.

The company is positioning itself as a critical second source for chip production as AI demand exceeds the capacity of Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. Reports that SK Hynix may lease foundry space at the Ohio site remain unconfirmed.
