Azerbaijan Parliament Rejects European Parliament Human Rights Resolution

The Parliament of Azerbaijan rejected a European Parliament resolution on human rights, calling the measure a biased political action and an interference in internal affairs.

The Parliament of Azerbaijan rejected a resolution passed by the European Parliament on October 8, 2026, concerning human rights and freedoms within the country. Azerbaijani lawmakers characterized the resolution as a "biased political action" and accused the European Union body of applying double standards while failing to recognize new geopolitical realities in the South Caucasus following the Second Karabakh War.

Azerbaijan criticized the European Parliament for interfering in its internal affairs and attempting to issue instructions to its judicial institutions. The Azerbaijani parliament further alleged that the European Parliament ignored the rights of Azerbaijani refugees who suffered ethnic cleansing during Armenia's occupation of its territory.

In its response, the Azerbaijani legislature claimed the European Parliament is influenced by corruption and illicit lobbying. Officials argued that such confrontational rhetoric from the European Union hinders the current peace agenda between Azerbaijan and Armenia.
