DWP Opens Telephone Applications for Winter Fuel Payments

The Department for Work and Pensions will open telephone applications for the 2026/27 Winter Fuel Payment on Monday, October 19. The program provides payments between £100 and £300 to help eligible pensioners cover heating costs during the winter months.

While most qualifying individuals receive the payment automatically, applications are required for those who have never received the benefit or have deferred their State Pension. To be eligible, applicants must have been born on or before June 27, 1960, and typically reside in England, Wales, or Northern Ireland.

Postal applications have been available since September 21, and the final deadline for all claims is March 31, 2027. HM Revenue and Customs will recover payments from any individuals whose total annual income exceeds £35,000.
