Apple Develops Ultra-Thin iPhone Air 2 for 2027 Launch

Apple is developing the iPhone Air 2 with a 2nm chip and improved battery to launch in early 2027 as part of a streamlined product lineup.

Leaks indicate that Apple is developing the iPhone Air 2, a premium ultra-thin smartphone scheduled for release in the first half of 2027. The device aims to address criticisms of the original ultra-slim model by increasing battery capacity to approximately 3,500mAh, an 11% increase over the previous 3,149mAh cell.

To maintain a chassis thickness of 5.6mm while expanding the battery and camera hardware, Apple may utilize Color Filter on Encapsulation OLED technology from Samsung Electronics to thin the display stack. The device is expected to feature a 6.55-inch LTPO OLED screen with a 120Hz refresh rate and a dual 48MP rear camera system consisting of a primary and an ultra-wide lens.

Powering the device will be a next-generation 2nm A20 Pro chip with WMCM packaging and a new C2 5G modem, which could extend video playback to 30 hours. These hardware updates coincide with a strategy to consolidate the smartphone lineup into three tiers: iPhone, iPhone Pro, and iPhone Ultra.
