US Navy Helicopter Lands Safely After Red Sea Emergency

A US Navy helicopter landed safely after declaring an emergency over the Red Sea, contradicting false reports of a crash.

A United States Navy Sikorsky MH-60R Seahawk helicopter landed safely on Monday after declaring an emergency while flying over the Red Sea. The aircraft, using the call sign VVHR512, reported the emergency at approximately 5:20 p.m. ET near Yanbu, Saudi Arabia, while maintaining an altitude of about 475 feet.

The helicopter disappeared from public flight-tracking data after its displayed altitude dropped to zero, sparking false claims of a crash from Iranian state media and various social media accounts. United States Central Command denied these reports, stating that all U.S. military aircraft and personnel across the Middle East are safe and accounted for.

Military officials have not disclosed the specific cause of the emergency. The incident concluded with the aircraft landing safely, and no casualties or losses were reported.
