X Launches X Money Financial Services for U.S. Subscribers
X launched X Money in the United States, integrating peer-to-peer payments and banking services for Premium and Premium+ subscribers.
X launched X Money on July 27, 2026, transitioning the service from a limited beta to a general rollout for Premium and Premium+ subscribers in the United States. The financial hub integrates peer-to-peer payments, deposit accounts, bill pay, wire transfers, and check mailing directly into the social media platform. Users can access a virtual or physical metal Visa debit card with 3% cash back on eligible purchases and integration with Apple Wallet and Google Wallet.
Elon Musk designed the launch as a central component of his strategy to transform X into an everything app similar to WeChat, aiming to combine social networking with comprehensive financial services that could replace traditional bank accounts. Premium+ subscribers can earn up to 6% APY, while Premium subscribers can reach the same rate by meeting direct-deposit requirements.
Deposit accounts are held at Cross River Bank and are FDIC-insured up to $250,000. The service utilizes passkey-based security for authentication. The rollout has already drawn scrutiny from Senator Elizabeth Warren, who questioned the sustainability of the high interest yields and cited previous FDIC enforcement actions against Cross River Bank.
