Scholastic to Acquire Cottage Door Press for $71 Million

Scholastic Corporation signed a definitive agreement to acquire Cottage Door Press, the largest independent children's publisher in the United States, for approximately $71 million. The deal aims to strengthen Scholastic's position in the early childhood market by integrating Cottage Door's expertise in board books and novelty formats.

Scholastic will fund the acquisition using cash on hand and borrowings from its revolving credit facility. The transaction is expected to close by the end of 2026, pending shareholder approval from one of the sellers, third-party consents, and customary closing conditions. Cottage Door Press reported approximately $45 million in net revenue for the twelve months ending May 31, 2026.

As part of the agreement, the Luna StoryTime interactive electronic toy line will be spun off and will not be included in the acquisition. Scholastic executives described the move as a strategic fit to reach youngest readers through innovative formats.
