National Stock Exchange of India Debuts on BSE

The National Stock Exchange of India listed on the Bombay Stock Exchange on September 24, valuing the company at approximately 4.5 trillion rupees.

The National Stock Exchange of India (NSE) debuted on the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) on September 24, 2026, listing at 1,800 rupees per share, a 0.84 percent premium over its issue price. Shares closed the day at 1,818 rupees, approximately 1.8 percent above the issue price of 1,785 rupees. The listing values the world's largest derivatives exchange at approximately 4.4 lakh crore to 4.56 lakh crore rupees, placing it among the ten largest listed exchanges globally.

The initial public offering, the second-largest in Indian history, raised between 21,486 crore and 22,569 crore rupees. The offering was structured entirely as an offer for sale by existing shareholders, including the State Bank of India, Canada Pension Plan Investment Board, and Aranda Investments, meaning the exchange raised no new capital. The IPO was subscribed 5.71 times, with high demand from qualified institutional buyers.

CEO Ashish Kumar Chauhan noted that current Indian regulations prohibit the NSE from listing or trading its own shares on its own platform. While the debut was positive, analysts highlighted risks including heavy reliance on derivatives revenue and ongoing regulatory scrutiny from the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI). Shares were also admitted for trading on the Metropolitan Stock Exchange of India under a 'Permitted-to-Trade' category, as the company did not execute a formal listing agreement with that exchange.
