Chatbase Founder Yasser Elsaid to Double AI Startup Workforce

Yasser Elsaid will double the Chatbase workforce over six months, reversing his previous commitment to lean teams in the AI era.

Founder Yasser Elsaid announced plans to double the workforce of his San Francisco-based AI startup, Chatbase, from 40 employees over the next six months. The decision marks a reversal of Elsaid's previous commitment to maintaining a lean team, a strategy he now describes as "pretty wrong."

Elsaid argues that while AI coding models like Anthropic's Claude Opus 5.5 have made software development easier, this efficiency should encourage startups to build more complex products rather than reduce staff. He contends that AI models are not yet independent enough to replace humans in determining product direction and customer experience.

This expansion contrasts with recent workforce reductions at companies such as Block and Coinbase, as well as predictions from OpenAI CEO Sam Altman regarding the potential for one-person billion-dollar companies. Chatbase intends to use the new hires to increase its engineering and customer-facing capabilities.
