The Government of Cambodia and the Government of China commemorated 68 years of diplomatic relations on July 19, 2026. The partnership, established in 1958, has evolved from early diplomatic solidarity into what both nations describe as an ironclad friendship and a strategic economic partnership.
Economic cooperation is centered on the Belt and Road Initiative, which has facilitated the construction of international airports, deep-sea ports, and the Sihanoukville Special Economic Zone. China has become the primary trading partner for Cambodia and a chief source of foreign direct investment, supported by the China-Cambodia Free Trade Agreement and the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership.
To further expand engagement, the two nations utilize the Diamond Hexagon cooperation framework. This strategy targets growth across six key sectors: politics, agriculture, energy, security, production capacity, and people-to-people exchanges, with the goal of building a shared future community.
